It is with great sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Irene Baloi, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, and former resident of the Goodwin Community. She left us on Monday, January 13, 2020, at the age of 67 years.
Irene was born on April 29, 1952, into a large family in Water Valley, AB. She spent her first years there before the family moved to Grande Prairie where she finished her schooling.
After meeting the love of her life, Harvey Baloi, Irene settled down in Goodwin to raise her two children. She also raised many animals over the years of working on the farm. She was a people person and spent most of her career as a hairdresser, bringing both joy and comfort to her clients on both a personal and professional level. Her last years of work were spent at Victim’s Assistance, where she, once again, worked hard to bring comfort to others in their time of need.
Irene’s hobbies over the years included playing softball, horseshoes, curling, cards (mostly cribbage), tending to her many plants, and watching her favorite television programs as arthritis slowed her down in her latter years. She was quick to smile, happy to help, and always supportive of others.
She leaves behind her children: Alex (Sarina) and Jennifer; grandchildren: Tyler, Teri-Lynn, Jace, and Ivy; and siblings: Leo, Sam (Donna), Susan (Bernard), Laura (Gordon), Clara (Phil), and Edith (Willie).
Irene was predeceased by her parents Joe and Laura, husband Harvey, and siblings Tom and Theresa.
A Funeral Service will take place at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie at a date yet to be determined as some family members are travelling internationally.
