Kathleen Viola Bathgate, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the age of 86 years.
Kathleen was born in 1932 on the 22nd day of May in Fort William, ON. She was the daughter of Dr. Benjamin and Ellena Hardiman and she grew up the youngest and feistiest of seven sisters. She attended the Fort William Collegiate Institute and became a clerical typist, working for the federal government and eventually the government of Alberta.
On her 22nd birthday in 1954, she married Calvin William Bathgate who she celebrated 57 loving years with. Cal worked for the military and because of this they had the pleasure of living in multiple cities across Canada. Together they had four loving children: Carl (Catherine), Leslie, Ben (Michelle), and Kevin (Darlene). In 1977, the couple found home in Grande Prairie. This did not end their adventures however, as Kay and Cal continued to travel the country every summer in their motorhome.
Kay was an avid story teller, talented artist, and enthusiastic pianist. Her favorite thing to do was camp and she loved flowers and birds. She was a strong-willed woman who turned her life into whatever she wanted it to be and, in her own words, if she could have done life over again, she would have “lived it as she did”.
Kay will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will always remember her for her quirky sense of humor, her kindness, and her love.
The family would like to thank the management and staff of both The Gardens and Prairie Lakes Hospice for the care and kindness extended towards this inspiring woman.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at 4:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Light refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Church Anglican (6610 Poplar Drive, Grande Prairie, AB, T8W 1H1) or Heart and Stroke of Alberta (144, 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8).
