October 23, 1951 – November 15, 2020
Brian Thoreson longtime resident of Sexsmith, AB passed away at the QEll Hospital on Sunday November 15, 2020 at the age of 69 years. He was with his wife Lexie and his two sons Shawn and Ryan.
Brian was born on October 23, 1951 in Beaverlodge, AB to John and Margaret Thoreson. In 1963 the Thoreson family moved to Sexsmith where Brian was to graduate from the Sexsmith High School in 1969. He continued to NAIT for one additional year to study computer programming. Brian married Lexie Murchie in 1971 and continued to reside in Sexsmith for the next 35 years.
Brian owned and operated the Sexsmith Hotel (Alamo) for over 30 years before poor health dictated his retirement. Brian was very active in many community activities over the years including one term as Mayor of the town. He loved cars, had a fondness for Golden Retrievers, and a passion for his Hotel and staff. He was known for his hard work, quick wit, and extreme compassion for everyone. He was generous to a fault.
Brian will be missed by many including his wife Lexie, sons Shawn (Kelly), Ryan (Shauna), and grandchildren Logan and Mali. He is also survived by brothers Dennis and Terry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Brian’s family would like to thank the staff and nurses at McKenzie place for his daily care over the past 3 and a half years. As well as the staff and nurses at the QEll Hospital (3 North) for providing such excellent care during his last days spent in hospital.
There will be a small family service held for Brian. Due to COVID restrictions attendance is by invitation only. A larger celebration of life will be held with family & friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities (rmhcalberta.org)
