On Tuesday, February 18, 2020 Mary Cameron of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Kincardine, ON, the second youngest of six children. She began her teaching career at a young age in Ontario. In 1960, she and her husband George moved to Fairview, AB. Later that year, they settled in Spirit River, where Mary raised her two children. She was kind, caring and gracious, above all she was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Her love of young children expanded beyond teaching and she operated a day home in Spirit River until her retirement. During those years, she was known as “Auntie Mary” to many.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and attending church. After marrying her second husband, Jerry Cameron in 1990 they moved to Grande Prairie and enjoyed 15 wonderful years together.
Mary is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her son Dave (Karen) McFadyen and his children: Sarah, Kailee and Jaret; daughter Joan (Darrell) Radbourne and her children Cole and Janelle; stepson Greg (Carol) Cameron and his children: Ian (Jessie), Mark, David and Kate; stepson Dennis Cameron and his children Christina and Alex; stepdaughter Muriel (Neil) McKay and her children: Kelsey (Shaun), Geoffrey (fiancé Kelly) and Nicole (Scott); stepdaughter Faye (Murray) Petkau and her children Courtney (Luke) and Brittney; and great-grandchildren: Pierce, Pernilla, Spencer, James, Penelope, Emma, Logan and Lily. She also leaves her dear sister Kate Alexander, and sisters in-law Ethel Hockey and Elsie Cameron.
She was predeceased by her husband Jerry Cameron; sisters Ann Parr, and Marjorie Lawrie; and brothers John MacKinnon and Robert MacKinnon.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Emerald Gardens for their care and kindness, the doctors and nurses on 3 North at QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, and special caregiver Cion Lagera.
