Darrold Banta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our father Darrold Banta on January 10, 2024.
Darrold was born in Calgary on April 9, 1945 to Floyd and Grace Banta. He was the second oldest of three children.
Darrold was an active hockey player in his younger years, and enjoyed the sport as a spectator as he grew older. Along with hockey, Darrold was an avid sports fan, baseball, curling and golf. He developed a love for playing golf with family and friends. He passed his love of sports on to his son and they have golfed numerous courses all over Canada and the US together. He was part of a recreational golf team, with 3 of his closest friends.
Darrold was a longtime employee of the AEUB. His career as an inspector in the oilfield began in 1970 and moved him from Southern Alberta to Northern Alberta in the 32 years. After Darrold retired in 2002 from the AEUB, He joined the Ken Sargent team as a shuttle driver, and was there until the time of his passing.
Darrold lived for his children and in March of 2011 he welcomed his first and only granddaughter, Elizabeth, who became his shining light.
Darrold is survived by his children; Gregory Banta and Melissa Banta, granddaughter Elizabeth Derksen, nieces Sharon (Norman) Foshaug, Laine and Breanna, Debbie (John) Iversen, Luke and Abbey, Beverlee (Ken) Collinge, Amber and Kyle, Peggy Fulkerth, Ben (Christine)Fulkerth.
He was predeceased by his father Floyd Banta, mother Grace Banta (Key), sisters Beverly Banta, and Anna Mae Fulkerth (Banta) and many beloved aunties and uncles.
As per Darrold’s wishes there will not be a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the local heart and stroke foundation.
