Miriam Detwiler, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 86 years.
Miriam was born on March 1, 1934, and raised in Ontario, where she met and married Jim. Miriam worked as a librarian in the Catholic School System in Grande Prairie before retiring to the Narrows at Sturgeon Lake, and spending winters in Yuma, AZ, where they made more great friends.
She was often heard loudly exclaiming, “Holy Hannah good grief Martha Lord love a duck!”
Most autumns, Miriam would fly back to Ontario to commentate as a show ring announcer for various venues, including the prestigious Royal Winter Fair. Before Yuma years, Jim and Miriam coached the GPRC Wolves curling team to a championship.
Miriam will be sadly missed by her sister Nancy (Milt) Hardyck; daughter Jennifer (Michael) Hawkes; and son Chris (Michelle) Detwiler; grandchildren: Mitchell, Molly, Nicole, Matt and Luke; and great-grandchildren Logan and James;
She was predeceased by her daughter Marianne; husband Jim; and son in-law Michael.
