September 16, 1929 – January 7, 2021
We are sad to announce the death of Mrs. Doris Wagar of Grande Prairie on January 7, 2021.
Doris was born September 16, 1929, in the Castor Hospital. She grew up on a farm north of Halkirk, a few miles from the Battle River. After leaving school, she worked in the Bank of Montreal in Castor, then briefly, before her marriage to Max, in Edmonton, at the Public Trustee’s office. She was always interested in the arts and was a self-taught painter. Her works can be seen in the South Peace Regional Archives. Doris was always a very enthusiastic gardener, and an amateur naturalist, finding endangered plants in the forests around Grande Prairie and bringing them home into her garden to make sure that they were propagated.
She was predeceased by her husband William Maxwell, parents Nell Campion Rausch and Harold Rausch and three brothers.
She is survived by her sons Stephen (Donna) and Kurt (Deborah), her sister Olga, and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was fortunate to have the patient and devoted care of Stephen, his wife, Donna and her sister Diane, who looked after her for years before she had to be placed in care.
Due to COVID-19, no funeral service will be held.
Memorial donations may be made to the South Peace Regional Archives, at www.southpeacearchives.org, or an arts organization of your choice.
