Edey, Walter Raymond

Walter Raymond Edey, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Heart Valley, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Prairie Lakes Hospice in Grande Prairie, at the age of 96 years.
Ray was born in Carmangay, AB on August 13, 1922. He was one of 9 children born to Alexander and Margaret Edey who emigrated from Scotland in 1910. Ray spent most of his childhood in Heart Valley on the farm. As a young man he joined his family in Calgary, but later found himself back in Northern Alberta where he married Thursa Ann LeBlanc, also from Heart Valley. Ray worked at McGavins for over 30 years. Later he worked at Fairview Regional college in Grande Prairie for 15 years.
Ray loved to tinker outside. He loved camping and fishing, enjoyed driving, and made many trips to Jasper. He also enjoyed going back to spend time at the family farm. He loved his Edmonton Oilers and having a cold beer.
He is survived by his 3 daughters: Beverly (Bruce) Larsen of Grande Prairie, Lesli Gail (Sid) Giroux of Calgary, and Marla Edey of Vancouver; 8 grandchildren: Galen, Shyra, Mark, Milynda, Deniya, Desiree, Keehn, and Brody; as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
Ray was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Thursa (nee LeBlanc).
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
