October 25, 1930 – August 25, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear dad and loving G-pa.
Ed was one of eleven children, born and raised in Bezanson to Lillie and Jerome Norton.
At a very young age, his love of sports brought him to sponsor and follow local ball teams. His interest in business led him to opportunities including: Ed Norton Construction, GP Auger and Bit, Calympics, Payless Gas and Mailer Lumber where he was in partnership with his son Murray (the company was named after Murray’s wife Marilyn and their two children, Aimee and Tyler)
In the early 80s, Ed and a few of his friends were introduced to the island of Kauai, where they went on to purchase property. Ed built his dream home in 1986 which became his happy place for many years. Anyone that had the pleasure of visiting him in Kauai were introduced to his favourite lounge, Tihiti Nui and their famous Mai Tais; if you were really lucky, he would serenade you with one of his many Hawaiin songs.
Eventually, Ed moved to Kelowna, B.C, where he loved to fish and boat with his grandkids. He spent many years watching over his grandkids in the summer months and wintering in Kauai. He played a lot of crib and had fun times with Barb and Rod at the lake. Their favourite game was Captain, which they played often. One of the highlights of his life is when Barb and Rod took him to Seattle to a ball game. While at the lake, he spent a lot of time with his neighbor and good friend, Cliff, playing cards and laughing about Cliff’s many stories. Every summer, he spent hours making his freezer jam that he enjoyed giving away and we all enjoyed receiving. His pastimes at the lake were tending to his flowers, feeding the ducks and spoiling his dog, Lucy.
Ed was always very proud of all his grandkids and especially loved when the babies came.
Ed is predeceased by his son Murray; daughter-in-law, Marilyn; his brothers Earl, Clyde, Ralph and Fred; sisters Olive, Ruby, Stella, Laura and Shirley. He leaves to mourn his sister, Grace; son, Dale; daughter Diane (Dave); and son, Barry (Shellee) along with their mother, Elsie Norton and numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 4th at 1:00 at the Bear Creek Funeral Home; Interment at the Glen Leslie cemetery at a later date. For those unable to attend the service, a livestream link is available here.
