Elva Feckley, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Rosebud, AB, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019, at QEII Hospital, at the age of 93 years.
Elva Rosella was born October 10, 1925, to Harry T. Kale and Gunde Marie Kale in Stanley, North Dakota. She joined her older sister Evelyn. Siblings Harry T. Kale Jr., Wilma, Lois, Joyce, and Dorothy came later. The family moved several times and settled in Oceanside, California. She graduated from Oceanside High School in 1942.
She worked for a laundry near Camp Pendleton during the war years. She became re-acquainted with Glen Read (from high school) after the war. They married February 14, 1946. Richard Eugene was born February 23, 1947; Timothy Michael was born December 4, 1948, and Judith Marlene was born October 7, 1950. Tragedy came on May 9, 1953, when Glen drowned in a boating accident.
Friends and family built a house for Elva and the kids in Oceanside where they lived for a year or so. The family moved to Oregon in 1954, where her Mom and Dad and siblings had previously moved.
Elva, her sister Joyce, and her mother Marie went to Rosebud, AB, to visit Grandma Christensen in 1954. This was when Elva met her future husband Lorne Feckley. Lorne moved to Oregon, and they were married March 25, 1955. Douglas Edward was born September 3, 1957 and Lynda Gayle was born October 22, 1959. They farmed near Stayton until 1968. Dick joined the Navy and went to Vietnam in 1967. Tim joined the Army and went to Vietnam during 1967-1968. Judy attended university in Oregon.
This was a difficult time for Elva, leaving three of her children and moving to another country. Elva, Lorne, Doug and Lynda moved to Rosebud in 1968 to take over the farm. They continued to farm until April 1998, when they sold the farm and moved to Strathmore.
They had some happy retirement years traveling to see the children in Mississippi, California, Oregon, Whitecourt, and Grande Prairie. Elva moved to assisted living in 2011. Lorne visited Elva every day. Lorne’s health deteriorated in 2014 and the house was sold.
Lorne moved to Grande Prairie to assisted living. Elva moved to Grande Prairie in October 2014.
Lorne passed away December 2015. Mom stayed at Points West, and Lynda visited Elva every day. Elva and Lynda and other members of the family had many fun and wonderful shopping trips.
