Garry Walter Crittall, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Drumheller, AB, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB, at the age of 84 years.
Garry was born on February 15, 1942, in Drumheller. He was raised there, and after obtaining his grade 12 diploma, he completed his journeyman instrumentation technician apprenticeship at NAIT. As a young adult, he worked at the Atlas mine, and while living there in Drumheller, he met his wife, Margaret Kruchten. He went on to work in the mines in both Canmore and Grande Cache. They eventually settled in Grande Prairie, where Garry was employed with Weyerhaeuser until retiring in 2002.
He was an incredibly kind, loving, and generous man with a great sense of humour. Garry loved his family and always put them first. He greatly enjoyed cooking, birdwatching, genealogy, coffee with the guys, and spending time with his family.
Garry will be sadly missed by his children, Lisa (Bob) Schubrink, Gord (Julie) Crittall, and Derek (Cori) Crittall; brother Ron Crittall; grandchildren Mitchell (Samantha) Petersen, Jordan Petersen, Patrick Shannon, Brodie Crittall, Kara (Cory) St Georges, and Katie Crittall; as well as his great-grandchildren, Roy and Alix Petersen, Declan Shannon, and Rhett St Georges.
He was predeceased by his mother, Alice Crittall (née Cook); his father, Walter Crittall; his brother, Bruce Crittall; and his wife, Margaret Crittall (née Kruchten).
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404-102 St), preceded by a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Following the mass, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon in Tranquille Hall at the church, after which burial will take place at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Ave and 112 St).
For those who cannot attend in person, the funeral mass will be livestreamed. The link will be available shortly before the mass begins.
In honour of Garry, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
