Eva Annie Gould, resident of Clairmont, AB, formerly of Clearwater, BC, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 80 years.
Eva Gould (nee Uhryn) was born in Prestville, AB, on July 19, 1942; to her father William who was born in Toporincie, Galicia, Poland in 1901, and her mother Eunice who was born in Wakaw, SK, in 1911. In addition to her parents, the family consisted of four brothers and five sisters, unfortunately two of her siblings died at an early age. The Peace River Country was just being opened for development in the 40’s and 50’s so she grew up in a very different time from today. Transportation consisted of rail, mud/gravel roads, and trails through the bush to the “homestead”. Eva grew up on the original “Homestead” which was along the banks of the Smokey River. When additional land became available the family moved to what was then affectionately referred to as “the farm”. Another log house was built, and by the time a new house was constructed in the 60’s, Eva had left, was married and was busy raising children of her own.
As the family grew, she became a butcher working at a local meat processing plant, and then at a grocery chain in the Grande Prairie area. Prior to, and after retirement, she kept herself busy helping other folks clean their homes, and at times would take students in as boarders. She liked helping people and enjoyed the rewards of knowing she had done a good job. She and Howard (her spouse) took great pride in their acreage in Sexsmith, AB, until his passing in 2012, when she moved to Clearwater to enjoy its natural beauty.
Eva was an avid reader and gardener, she especially enjoyed keeping her decorative plants thriving. Her belief was that they added “spirit” to her space, this supplemented her love of classical music. Christmas and Thanksgiving– any time really – were always an inviting excuse to cook large meals and send folks home with lots of leftovers.
She will be remembered as a kind and caring person, who was attentive to detail especially when they were of family, financial, or medical matters. It’s worth noting that her intuitiveness was amazingly accurate; and when she did get surprised, her go to phrase was “well….”.
Eva will be sadly missed by: sisters: Josephine Uhyrn (Lerminiaux) and Ruth Uhyrn (Renwick); children: Lawrence Gould, Gary Gould, and Donald Gould; grandchildren: Allen, Christopher, Jamie, Kayla, Courtney, and Torri;
great-grandchildren: Dalilah, Athena, Hayden, Paxton, and Kaiden; step-children: George; Harvey, Brenda, and Tracy; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and close friends.
Eva was predeceased by: father William Uhyrn; mother Eunice Uhyrn; brothers: Walter Uhyrn, Edward Uhyrn, Lawrence Uhyrn, and Leanard Uhyrn; sisters: Eunice Uhryn (Dika) and Evelyn Uhyrn; daughters Kerri Gould and Debra Gould (Purvis); as well as spouse Howard Roberts.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave).
