It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laura Marie Hoffos, resident of Grande Priaire, AB, on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the Prairie Lake Hospice from her long battle with cancer, at the age of 73 years.
Laura Marie Blair was born in Edmonton, AB, on October 8, 1947, and was lovingly raised by her grandparents George and Laura Blair. After receiving her nursing degree, she worked at Alberta Hospital as a psychiatric nurse and stayed in Edmonton to be close to family and friends. She also modeled and worked part time at Sears where she met her husband, Jim Hoffos. They married in 1970, at the Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton, AB and had two children shortly after, Brooks and Blaire Hoffos. They continued their life of parenthood in Edmonton until Jim set up a business in Grande Prairie and decided to make it their home. They moved to Grande Prairie in 1979, and never looked back. Laura and Jim developed City Answering Service from 1983-1989, creating many friendships along the way and learning the various roles of small business ownership. Laura managed company operations while Jim took care of Public Relations (golfing and curling). Together they created a wonderful environment for all involved.
Laura was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Jim Hoffos (2011). The family takes comfort in knowing they will be together again.
Laura is survived by her son Brooks Hoffos and his wife Shauna; daughter Blaire Hoffos Peterson and her husband Travis; grandchildren Dalton Peterson and Ashtin Peterson; sister Lynn Wilson and her husband Barry and children Jeff and Kristi; Janet and Jim Kessler and children John, Rhonda (Mike) and Donny; as well as Joan Hoffos who was predeceased by husband Mel Hoffos and children Michael, Christine and Kathleen.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Wildrose Manor, Dr. Brad Martin, Dr. Angela Barreth, Nurse Jen at Prairie Lake Hospice, as well as everyone involved with her care during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute (11560 University Ave NW, Edmonton, AB, T6G 1Z2), or to Prairie Lake Hospice (11460 104 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 3G9).
