October 9, 1942 – December 13, 2019
It is with great sadness that we have to say an unexpected goodbye to a loving husband, father, and grandfather, Jim Newton.
Jim was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan on October 9, 1942. He was married to his wife of 52 years, Verna, on June 8, 1967. He studied at SAIT for two years to become an automotive mechanic. He worked in and around the Peace Country for many years at various auto dealerships and tire shops, eventually settling as an owner/operator of a Seismic business for most of his working life.
Jim loved to spend time outdoors, puttering around the farm, boating, fishing, camping, quadding, and hunting. He enjoyed his horses, as well as exploring the Saddle Hills area. Jim was always up for an adventure and loved to visit the coast for fishing trips, as well as travelling up north to the Yukon and territories to fish and hunt.
He is survived by his wife Verna, his daughter Sandy (Gerry) Douville, and his grandchildren Jaden and Taryn Douville. He will be missed by his extended family, brothers and sisters in law, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 3pm at Bear Creek Funeral Home (11802 99 Ave, Grande Prairie).
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
