Jay Bird began his journey to the big Golf Course in the sky, suddenly and without warning, on February 27, 2021.

Jays’ family is devastated, his friends are shocked and saddened by his recent passing. There are no words to describe the terrible loss we share, and the huge place he left open in our hearts.

Jay lived most of his life in the Ridgevalley area. He worked and trained as an Auto Mechanic and Auto Body Technician but ultimately spent many years in various capacities in the Oilfield. Most recently with Arc Resources as a Power Engineer.

Jay was passionate about sports, he loved and played hockey, ball and golf.  He was a great supporter of youth hockey and often co-coached a rec league. Golf became his all- time favorite pastime. He travelled far and wide for tournaments and returned with many trophies. Jay was always eager to share his passions and continually encouraged others to learn. He was a patient and kind teacher, regardless of the sport or job or task. He was very big-hearted, caring, and children always gravitated to him.

Over the 27 years here in Ridgevalley, while others grew crops, Jay grew a “Chevy Farm”. He so loved his trucks and toys and in recent years he began restoring Golf Carts, many of which are scattered all over the Peace Country. He was active in the Debolt and District Ag Society Golf Board and other community events.

Jay leaves to mourn and miss him, his parents Albert and Wenndee, his brother Morgan and his partner Jamie, and their children Connor and Riley, as well as his grandmother Gabrielle.

Jay was part of a large extended family, many aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. CJ, Melissa, and Cher will feel the impact of his loss greatly.  He was blessed in life with many good friends, Norm, Frank, Blair, Mike, Katie, and Cindy as well as many others who will miss him both on and off the golf course.

Jay was pre-deceased by his grandparents John and Bette-Anne Morrow, and John and Olive Quinn, as well as his aunt Sue Bonner.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Debolt and District Community Center.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions the service is by invitation only. However, tributes can be made to Bear Creek Funeral Home that will be shared at the service. For those not able to attend the service it will be live streamed through the Bear Creek Funeral Home Youtube Channel.

A gathering of friends will take place outdoors at the Debolt Golf Couse when the weather permits.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jaysons’ name to the youth Golf Program at Ridgevalley School or to the Debolt & District Ag Society for Youth Golf program or sponsorship.
