Elsie Johnson, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Points West Hospice, at the age of 83 years.

Elsie, her husband Stanley and their kids lived in many places throughout the Peace Country and in Hay River, NWT. Early in their family life while Dad travelled for his work, she maintained the family home with the responsibility of raising three kids, often under tough living conditions. She also held many jobs outside the home throughout the years, until her health forced her to retire in her 70’s. Elsie’s last home was her apartment in Grande Prairie where her family was close to her and her friends were closer.

Elsie is survived by her children: Sharon (Ed Mercier) Johnson, Wayne (Wanda) Johnson, and Carol (Floyd Wayne) Johnson; grandchildren: Jeremy (Petra Syriste) Johnson, Devin (LeeAnn Walker) Johnson, Lori (Ken) Kokosha and Amy Nash (Tim Caldwell); very special great-grandchildren: Dylan and Billie Johnson, Kyle, Connor and Anna Kokosha, and Ethan, Owen, Caleb and Kali Caldwell; and brother Roy (Esther) Gustafson.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband Stanley Johnson; parents Guthard and Agnes Gustafson; and siblings: Ingvar, Ingrid, Gunner, Greta, Harry, Wilma and Hazel.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the Staff of Points West Hospice for the care they gave to Mom in her final months. Their professionalism and empathy assured us that Elsie was comfortable, and she was always treated with kindness, respect and dignity.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
