Josephine Lorraine Fisher, 82, of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, after suffering the effects of dementia.
Born on February 9, 1942, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Josephine was the daughter of Walter and Delma Hughes. After high school, she attended the Provincial Training School in Red Deer, Alberta, alongside her sister Marion. While in Red Deer she started working at Industrial Acceptance Corporation “IAC”, married the love of her life, James Fisher, and they began a life of adventure and hard work together.
In 1966, Jo transferred with IAC to the Grande Prairie area, where she and Jim raised their family. Once her older children left home, Jo explored new opportunities, creating beautiful drapery projects for businesses in Grande Prairie. She completed investment courses at Grande Prairie Regional College and worked with Rattenbury Financial before embarking on her true passion: entrepreneurship.
In 1991, Jo fulfilled her creative dreams by purchasing and operating Mrs. B’s Drapery, a thriving business she ran with dedication and talent until her retirement in 2018. Her remarkable success earned her recognition in Northwest Business magazine’s feature story, “Women in Business”.
Jo’s hobbies and passions were always interwoven with her love for family. She delighted in the great outdoors, organizing camping and quading adventures that brought everyone together. Her vibrant energy and determination ensured she was never left behind on any excursion. She and her sisters also worked tirelessly to plan family reunions across Canada and the United States, strengthening bonds with extended family.
Jo will be dearly missed by her devoted husband of 60 years, James Albert Fisher; her children, Delaraine (Aaron Reynoldson) of Calgary, Robert (Bernadette) of Bentley, and Blair (Jessica) of Grande Prairie; and her beloved grandchildren, Aurora, Casey, and Nevara.
She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Delma Hughes, and her sisters, Olive Goertzen, Marion Lundstrom, and LaVern Stangeland.
Jo’s warmth, creativity, and unwavering love for her family leave a lasting legacy.
A celebration of Josephine’s life will be held at Bear Creek Funeral Home 11802 99 Ave on January 25, 2025 at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at a later date at the Edgerton Cemetery.
