Gerald Louis Logan, resident of Webster, AB, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 80 years.
Gerald was born on February 1, 1940, to Louie and Nellie Logan. Gerald stayed close to his roots all of his life. He was raised on the family farm and resided there at the time of his passing.
In his early years, Gerald helped Louie at his sawmill and with hauling pulpwood with a team of horses. When he turned 18, Gerald went to work as a farmhand for Adley and Aimee Carter. Living and working with the Carters, Gerald quickly became one of the family and discovered his love of truck driving. He eventually bought his own truck and became a respected gravel hauler for many years. In the early 1980’s, Gerald met Tess Balmer, and together, they made the Logan family farm home.
Gerald was a perfectionist, keeping his equipment and property pristine. At his recent farm auction, many patrons complimented the upkeep of all his equipment and belongings. Gerald also applied himself to great restorations and inventions to make life easier on the farm. This included restoring several Case tractors, and he had great pride in the results.
He also loved his Fjord horses. He hosted many memorable and fun sleigh rides for family and the community. He and Tess greatly enjoyed cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and quadding. Gerald and Tess also spent a lot of time enjoying and making memories with their family and friends.
Gerald will be sadly missed by his beloved Tess; sisters Laurie (Teddy) Ostaszewski and Marilyn Plahta; sister in-law Alida Logan; brother in-law Calvin McInnis; the Carter families; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Louie and Nellie; sisters Bernette Grotkowski and Diane McInnis; brother Merle Logan; and brothers in-law Clem Grotkowski and Frank Plahta.
Gerald’s family would like to thank the staff at the QEII Hospital (5 North) and Renal Dialysis for providing such compassionate care up until his passing.
