Daniel William Scorgie

March 21, 1949 – February 20, 2026

With heavy hearts, we mournfully announce the sudden passing of Dan Scorgie on Friday, February 20, 2026 at the age of 76 years. He died peacefully, next to his beloved wife, Gayle, at Home in Grovedale, Alberta.

Dan was born on March 21, 1949, in Beaverlodge, Alberta to Elmer “Sandy” and Mae Scorgie, he was one of seven children. Dan met the love of his life, Gayle, when she delivered him coveralls for work. Excited to start their lives together, the two were married on August 10, 1991. Dan cherished his beautiful wife, daughters Lynne and Maggie, and his grandchildren Luis, Scarlett, Violet and Willow.

Dan had a passion for diesel engines, trucks, firearms, and the outdoors, especially boating, camping and fishing. Dan owned a thriving diesel machine shop, Dan’s Truck and Diesel, for over thirty years, many of those years working alongside his devoted wife. Raised to work hard and take pride in his work and efforts, Dan instilled that same pride in his family and those he mentored; he loved teaching and passing on his skills.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Mae and Elmer “Sandy” Scorgie, and his sister Diane Lieskovsky. Dan is survived by his wife Gayle, daughters Lynne Oliver (Richard) and Maggie Scorgie (Taylor), his siblings Lorraine Howatt, Leonard Scorgie, Marianne Gingles (Joe), Kathy Longson (Arnold) and Marlin Scorgie (Kathy), numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved grandchildren.

Dan’s kindness, dedication, laughter and storytelling touched many lives, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and love him, including all the neighbourhood dogs.

We invite you to join us in celebrating “Diesel Dan’s” life this summer. Details of the celebration will be shared at a later date, offering friends and family a chance to gather an honour Dan’s memory.
