Grace Alexandra Lunn, resident of Spirit River, AB, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, in Spirit River, at the age of 89 years.
The smell of poultry seasoning, a honey homemade bread sandwich, and a percolated cup of coffee will always remind us of our mom, Grace Lunn. Appropriately named by Alex and Agnes Livingstone.
Grace was born on June 30, 1930 and was the sixth born to a family of 10. She was discovered at a community dance in Pine Creek, MB, by the love of her life, William “Bill” Lunn, while chording out a tune on the upright piano.
Grace was young and courageous when she agreed to a life of unconditional love and pioneering in a yet to be developed, northern Alberta homestead. Grace and Bill enjoyed married life for 66 years. At their Codesa homestead, Belloy corner home, Spirit River condo, Pioneer Lodge, and finally her last days in Long Term Care.
Grace experienced a satisfying domestic career, which gave her 8 children, multiple neighbours, in-laws, adopted bachelors, and a doting husband. This life was not without heartache and challenges, but she was armed with more than a Grade 8 education, she had a masters in motherhood, canning, curling her hair, and bread baking. Her joy was evident in all aspects of her life, especially in the kitchen.
It is with selfish, grieving hearts that her six of eight children say, “See you in our next life, and say hi to dad, Sandra, and Johnny.” She asked frequently about her mom, dad, and siblings, to which we would all assure her she was about to meet them again.
Her legacy includes her most prized creations: Heather Putio, Marlene Lawrence, Gerry (Linda) Lunn, Linda (Darryl) Ryder, Patsy (Darell) Urness, and Betty (Brian) Bush; her sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, her dear friend Aase Knoblauch, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and great neighbours.
She was predeceased by her daughter Sandra (Bill) Bennett in 1995, and her son Johnny Lunn in 1974.
We extend grateful appreciation to the LTC and hospital staff of the Spirit River hospital. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date that is safe for all to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central Peace Palliative Care Committee (Box 819, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0).
