Anne Malainey passed away in St. Albert on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at the age of 95.
She was born in Samburg, SK, in 1926. She moved with her family to the Blueberry Mountain/Spirit River, AB, area at the age of four. She married Nick Malainey in 1955, and lived in different parts of the Peace Country before settling in Grande Prairie, AB, in 1960.
Her family and faith were the most important things in Anne’s life. Despite the challenges of daily life, she always took the time to read nightly Bible bedtime stories to her children. As the kids grew, she worked part-time at the Salvation Army Thrift Store and Co-op Bakery. For many years to come, her family will continue to feel the warmth of her love through the beautiful sweaters, quilts and afghan blankets she made. Participation in the congregation at Christian Fellowship Assembly (formerly Zion Gospel Temple) was a big part of her life in Grande Prairie. In 2002, she moved to Edmonton, AB, to be closer to her children and grandchildren, and formed many friendships with the other residents of Central Baptist Manor. Anne spent her final years at Youville Home in St. Albert.
Anne will be greatly missed by her children: Joe (Erika), David (Lori) and Mary (Kris); grandchildren Curtis (Heather) and Mackenzie; her sister in-law Nancy; as well as numerous nephews and nieces and their children.
She was predeceased by her husband Nick; father Stefan “Steve” Badiuk; mother Mary (nee Denesyk); as well as brothers: Nick, Matt, Bill, and Pete.
The family would like to thank the Unit 1 and Recreation Therapy staff of Youville Home for their kindness, care and compassion.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a semi-private funeral service (which Anne referred to as her “Going Away Party”) will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 1:00pm, at Christian Fellowship Assembly in Grande Prairie (11449 92 St). Interment to follow at Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave and 112th St).
A link will be available 15 minutes prior to the service on Anne’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home Website.
