June 9, 1946 – December 24, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Oakford of Grande Prairie Alberta, on December 24, 2020 at the age of 74 years old.
Marie was born in Viking, Alberta on June 9, 1946 to Glenda and Joe Langager. She married Glenn Oakford in 1969, and they lived in Dawson Creek before moving to Hythe in 1974. Glenn passed away in 1988, leaving her with their three sons, two of whom were still at home.
Marie enjoyed working at the Hythe Pioneer Home and was there for 39 years, until her most recent move to Grande Prairie in 2015. She loved people and enjoyed the Legion gatherings, playing cards, watching sports, and spending time with friends and family. Marie never forgot a birthday or an event and was incredibly thoughtful to all who knew her.
Marie’s family were her pride and joy. She will be deeply missed by her children Darin (Kimberley) Oakford, Shane (Donna) and their two children Dawson and Macy Oakford, and Scott (Yvonne) and their two children Olivia and Jacob Oakford. She is also survived by her siblings Gladys (Gary) Johnson, and Larry (Lorraine) Langager, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
We would like to sincerely thank all of Marie’s friends and neighbours who were so kind and thoughtful to her over the past few months. A special mention of gratitude to Marie’s long-time dear friend, Mabel Hanson for the commitment and compassion shown to Marie and our family during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Hythe Royal Canadian Legion on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00am. For those unable to attend, there will be a livestream of the service available on Bear Creek Funeral Home’s YouTube Channel.
Should you wish, donations may be made to the Hythe Golden Age Centre, or a charity of your choice.
