It is with sadness but also gratitude for a life well lived that we say goodbye to a dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Marjorie Ruth Throness (Nee Sylvester) passed away on June 1st, 2026. She is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband of 71 years, Oswald; she is survived by children Dale (Linda) Throness, Karen (Darrell) Jespersen, Lynn (Carman) Torgerson and Elaine Wills, 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren (plus 1 arriving any day), brother Melvin (Joan) and sister-in-law Ingrid. Also, brother-in- laws, Lloyd (Hazel) and Dean Throness, countless other close relatives and dear friends. She was predeceased by sister Ellen Gravengard, brother Don Sylvester, son-in-law Raymond Wills and great-grandson Dalton Lindblom and numerous other cherished family and friends.
Ruth was born 1929 in Grande Prairie and was raised near Beaverlodge, by parents Christian and Gladys Sylvester. She was the 2nd of 4 children, born 14 months after sister Ellen, followed by brother Melvin 3 years later, and finally Donald when she was 10 years old.
Ruth attended PRBI for 3 years, and that’s where she fell in love with Oswald, and they were married shortly thereafter.
Ruth was a college-educated farmers’ wife and was known for her quick wit and sense of humour. She could single-handedly take on the whole family in Trivial Pursuit and she would win. She was an active volunteer with her church, PRBI, Gideons, and many other endeavours. She had a heart to teach, and taught piano to many hopefuls. She loved to garden, cook and bake and excelled at all of them.
Ruth loved her family more than anything and always made each and every one of us feel very special.
A funeral service will be held for Ruth at Christian Fellowship Assembly on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, at 1:00pm.
A Viewing will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026 ay Bear Creek Funeral Home.
Memorial donations in memory of Ruth can be made to the Throness Scholarship Fund through PRBI.
