Jean McCaskie (nee Woodcox), resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Belleville, ON, passed away peacefully with her daughter Heather by her side on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Mackenzie Place in Grande Prairie, at the age of 94 years.
Jean was born on May 22, 1926 in Bancroft, ON, to the late Jim and Pearl Woodcox. Her father had secretly wished for a son since they already had four daughters, and when registering her birth certificate, her dad registered her as Lewis Jean Woodcox; her name was to be Jean Lois. No one knew this until she sent away for her birth certificate years later and it was discovered. She never changed it, it gave everyone a smile when they heard the story.
Jean loved to knit and quilt. Her beautiful mitts, socks, sweaters and homemade quilts will be treasured forever in the hands of her children and grandchildren. With knitting needles in hand she absolutely loved to watch her Blue Jays, she didn’t miss a game, even if it meant taping it to watch the following day.
She will be sadly missed by her children: Larry (Cynthia), Heather Easton and Cheryl Crowe (Barry); grandchildren: Jason (Liza), Margaret (Jason), Melissa, Blane (Tabitha), Michael (Linzel), Jennifer (Brad) and Julie (Dean); great-grandchildren: Kailin, Amber, Vera, Brody, Chloe, Madelyn, Annie, Felix, Jaylyn, Reid and Peyton. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, especially by Joan Martin and Yvonne Robbins.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond McCaskie; parents James and Pearl Woodcox; and siblings: Hazel Plumley, Violet Sleeper, Edna Mountney and Alice Swan.
There will be no service at this time due to COVID-19 restrictions, A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Due to COVID-19 a special tribute to the intended pallbearers: Francis Plumley, Doug Mountney, Steve Robbins, Tim McCaskie, Scott Lowry and Fred McCaskie.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Mackenzie Place for their care and compassion during Jean’s residency. You all deserve a special hug.
