With sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Bill McLandress on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, at the age of 70 years.
Bill was born in Calgary, AB, on April 9, 1948 and raised in the Calgary/Hinton areas before moving to Grande Prairie to stay in 1962.
He worked all his life: starting from the young age of 7 with a paper route and other jobs until working at Canfor as a teenager. Bill worked at Pat’s Auto Supply for 16 years, and continued in sales at Northern Metallic for 34 years until his retirement in 2017.
Bill was very active in the community. He was involved with the ACT Club since 1972, coaching/managing minor hockey, and a lifetime member of the Grande Prairie Petroleum Association.
He enjoyed curling, golf, hunting, driving his 51’/52’ Ford trucks, quadding, and being “sociable”. He will be remembered as being an outstanding salesman, and always ready to hear or tell a good joke.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years Joyce, and his children: Lee (Bree), DJ (Paula), and Kim (Adam); as well as grandchildren: Ty, Telsey, Riley, Karlee and Willow.
He was predeceased by his parents Llewellyn (Dutch) and Elaine, brother Bob, as well as his in-laws Stella and Bob Kimble.
His laughter and charisma will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
No flowers please, if anyone wishes, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation at pitthopkins.org.
