Mildred “Milly” Dora Parks passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Central Peace Health Complex Longterm Care in Spirit River, AB, with her hair combed, lipstick on and family by her side.
Milly was born September 23, 1933 in Grandma Socquet’s house on the farm in the Rahab area, now called Codesa.
Until her retirement, Milly was Post Mistress in Eaglesham, a position she held for 13 years. Milly was very active in the Eaglesham Community which she was very proud of. She was a member of the Eaglesham Legion, a charter member of the Royal Purple, a member of the Agriculture Society, Lakeside Golf and Country Club and the Seniors Club. Milly loved dancing, golfing, travelling (she really enjoyed the Nagel bus tours), gardening, crafts, cooking and baking (her Jam-Jam cookies are a family favourite), and she was always ready for a good game of cards.
We will all remember Milly as a friendly, caring person that loved her family very much and served her community to the best of her ability. Milly loved and was loved! Rest in peace Mom.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Gail Parks, Debbie (Claude) Rouleau, Grant Parks (Rhonda), and Dean (Tracy) Parks; grandchildren: Carla Peters, Shannon (Wayne) Purcha, Bradley Larson (Sherry), Lisa (Hart) Proctor, Darren, Matthew, Christopher and Nathan Parks; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Jeannette (LeRoy) Larson; sister in-law Helen Knutson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Milly was predeceased by her husband of 44 years James “Jim” Parks in 1995, parents Christian and Delphine Knutson, and her brother Glenn Knutson.
The family would like to send special thanks to Spirit River Long-Term Care staff as well as her caregiver Wendy for the care she received while she resided there. The compassion and care provided by the staff is beyond compare. Thank you.
A Celebration of Life will take place April 25, 2020 in Eaglesham. More details will be available closer to then.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to AHS – Central Peace Health Complex – LTC (PO Box 339, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0), Eaglesham Community Church (Box 298, Eaglesham, AB, T0H 1H0) or the charity of one’s choice.
