Margaret Laura Mitchell of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the age of 98 years.

Margaretha L. Peters was born in Neuanlage, SK, on September 24, 1920. Margaret grew up in a large family. She had 15 brothers and sisters, 9 half brothers and sisters and 1 step-brother, all of whom she loved and cared for very much. She attended grades 1 to 8 at the Pembrooke School. Margaret and her sisters enjoyed playing guitar and singing together at many special occasions.

Margaret married Myland Mitchell on January 4, 1958. They farmed in Blueberry Mountain, AB and raised three children. They semi-retired in Spirit River. In 2009, Myland and Margaret retired to the Pleasantview Lodge. Myland passed away in 2012 and, in the fall of 2014, Margaret was transferred to Peace River (Points West Living) to a health care facility that had dementia care. In 2015, Margaret was transferred to Grande Prairie (Prairie Lake Seniors Community) where she resided until her passing.

Highlights of Margaret’s life included: gardening, cooking, baking, raising livestock, camping and, most of all, her grandchildren. Margaret will be fondly remembered by her loving family and friends for her generosity and kindness.

Margaret has left behind a legacy rich in faith, love and hope, all the result of her deep and abiding walk with the Lord. While we mourn the loss of our dear Mom, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend, we know she is at peace now in the presence of her Saviour.

Margaret will be deeply missed by her children and their spouses: Gail (David) Yanishewski, Betty-Ann (David) Kraft, and Gary (Andrea) Mitchell; grandchildren: Jennifer Arsenie, Laurie (Timothy) Metz, Micheal Mitchell, Cheyenne Mitchell, Justin (Samantha) Kraft, and Ryan Kraft; great-grandchildren: Elliette, Rory, Evyn and Jameson; siblings: Judith Thiessen, and Jessie (Bill) Hildebrandt; half-siblings: Harry Peters, Eva (Gerald) Ens, Martha (Ron) Ens, David (Helen) Peters, Nettie (Neil) Halava, and Esther (Ken) Doell; sister in-law Shirley Miller; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret will also be remembered by her friends and caregivers at the Pleasantview Lodge in Spirit River, Points West Living in Peace River, Prairie Lake Seniors Community in Grande Prairie, and her friends and neighbours from the communities of Spirit River and Blueberry Mountain.

She was predeceased by her husband, Myland Mitchell; granddaughter Faith Mitchell; parents Peter and Margaretha Peters and step-mother Judith Peters; as well as numerous siblings and their spouses.

Thank you to the caregivers and staff at Prairie Lakes Seniors Community and to Dr. Brad Martin and his very caring nurse, Verna, for their extraordinary care.

A Family Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019, at 11:00am, at Blueberry Mountain Cemetery.
