We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Józef Panasiuk, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who was a resident of Grande Prairie, AB, on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the age of 91 years.
Józef was born November 28, 1931, in the Polish village of Koczukówka to parents Stefan and Katarzyna Panasiuk.
Józef lived through historical upheaval: WWII, occupation, and communism. The hardships of these times formed him. He was resilient, hard-working, innovative, a perpetual entrepreneur, adventurous, and a natural Stoic who accepted the world’s ebb and flow with grace.
With only a few suitcases and dollars in his pocket, Józef immigrated to Canada with his wife and four children, hoping for a better life. His vegetable garden, fruit trees, honeybees, and lakes to fish gave him purpose, and the pleasure that being in nature and open spaces brought him.
Józef was a quiet, kind man who loved, sacrificed, and provided for his family, and will be especially missed by his wife Janina of 63 years; daughters: Teresa Sehgal, Elizabeth Panasiuk, and Donna Panasiuk (Daniel Doran); beloved grandchildren Lauren and Matthew Sehgal; as well as many dear relatives in Poland.
A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 3:00pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie, AB (10404 102 St).
