Olga Pitman, longtime resident of Grande Prairie, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 88 years.
Olga was born July 28, 1930 in a barn (a fire had destroyed the family home a couple days prior), on a homestead close to Mullingar, SK. Her parents, John and Helen Obromniak, along with her brother and sister, were born in the Ukraine.
Olga met and married her husband, Ernest Pitman in North Battleford, SK in 1948 (Ernest passed June 1, 2011). They moved to Grande Prairie, in 1952 and raised three daughters. During these years, Olga was employed at Leslie’s Dairy Bar and Store, Canfor, and MacLeod’s Department store.
Olga was a happy, kind and caring woman with a sparkling smile. She loved gardening, camping, travelling, music, dancing, and shopping! People who knew this classy lady saw that she was always dressed fashionably!
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Shirley (Doug) Cooper, Connie (John) Shebansky, and Tammie (Randy Belyan) Pitman-Belyan; 9 grandchildren: Sue (Mark), Shannon (Denis), Brandon (Amanda), Amber (Jamie), Jason (Beril), Robyn (Ian), Jamie, Riley (Lora), and Tanner; 14 great-grandchildren: Codyn, Quaid, Emma, Sophie, Kayla, Sara, Alexis, Austin, Destiny, Daxton, Chase, Angela, Raven, and Harper; as well as sister Anne Sauchuk.
Olga was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brother Mike Obromniak.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Wild Rose Villas, Prairie Lake Seniors Community, and QEII Hospital 5N for their compassion while caring for Olga. A special thank you to Dr. Alexandra Noga and Dr. Catherine Roder.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
