September 24, 1954 – August 16, 2026
Robert Harvey Riding passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2026, at the age of 71.
Rob, the ‘favorite’ child of Alma and Harvey Riding, grew up in Peace River with his 4 siblings. He was a bit of a troublemaker as a kid (and maybe as an adult too!) but his mischievous nature was always accompanied by a big heart, many laughs, and countless stories to tell. He spent many years in Edmonton where he grew a special relationship with his Aunt Muriel on and off the golf course.
A hard worker, Rob worked in camp services for much of his adult life, even spending time working overseas in Iran.
Rob was an impressive golfer and played many rounds with his lifelong friends Greg and Pat. Together they enjoyed courses in 12 states, 7 provinces, and even England! He proudly scored a hole-in-one in both PEI and Montana. In more recent years he would golf early on Sunday mornings with his friends in Grande Prairie and take trips to BC to golf with his buddies or his younger brother. When he wasn’t on the course, Rob could be found taking an early morning walk around the mall, having breakfast with his brother Cal, or at home with his feet up watching golf, curling, baseball, or hockey on tv (unless Coronation Street was on!) He was an avid reader, and loved the slots, just like his mom and aunt- and made many trips to Las Vegas.
He loved giving his siblings a hard time, but beneath the teasing was fierce love and loyalty. When it came to his family, he would stand by them and defend them no matter what. Rob had a soft spot for his nieces and nephews and was most proud of being made an uncle.
Rob will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his siblings Gail Riding, Joan (Bill) Woroschuk, Marg (Rick) Hackworth, and Cal (Rachelle) Riding. His Nephew Justin (Leona), and Nieces; Brett (Terence), Carlie (Jake), and Tika (Ben). As well as his Great nephews and nieces Tyson, Emmelie, Kason, Barrett and Kimber, family members, and good friends Pat and Greg.
Though his passing leaves a tremendous void here, we take comfort knowing Rob is being welcomed home by those he loved who went before him.
Robert will forever be remembered by being ‘unapologetically Rob’ and never feeling the need to conform to anyone else’s expectations. Those close to him will cherish the memory of his loyalty, kind and friendly nature, great sense of humor, and heart of gold.
A private interment and Celebration of Life will be held for Rob’s family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mazenkowski Alberta Heart Institute, The MS society of Canada in or a charity of one’s choice.
