June 8, 1949 – September 5, 2025
In loving memory of Sandra Forbes, daughter of the late John and Betty Coupar of Bible Hill, Nova Scotia; and wife of the late Andrew (Drew) Forbes. Sandra and Drew became good friends in high school. They both took violin lessons from Mrs. Fraser (Truro) who loved to play matchmaker by seating them together when there was a student recital. It worked, as they were married before either of them achieved the age of 21. They were drawn to Hay River, NWT because of Drew’s job in Forestry, where they lived for over 30 years. They raised their son, Jason, and daughter, Crystal, in Hay River.
Sandra had a beautiful and powerful singing voice. She did not need a microphone to be heard when performing. She loved music, learned to play the piano, the accordion and the violin. She and Drew were born again Christians and were very involved in their Church community. They made many good friends wherever they lived. Sandra’s lively personality made her much loved by many who knew her.
Sandra was delighted to try new experiences—hot air balloon ride, swimming at the Great Barrier Reef, playing and singing duets with Drew, travelling to China, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and many other interesting places. She took great pleasure in decorating their house for Christmas and any other special times.
Sandra graduated university with a Bachelor of Education and taught elementary school in Hay River for most of her teaching career.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Drew, and her sister Jeannie.
Left to mourn: son Jason (Julie) Forbes, daughter Crystal (Tyler) Salamon, five grandchildren, brother Jack (Brenda) Coupar, cousins, in-laws, and many friends who cared deeply for her.
We can envision Sandra and Drew singing duets together in heaven.
Interment to take place at the Glory Hills Cemetery near Stoney Plain, Alberta, at 2:00pm on September 20, 2025, with a funeral reception at the Holiday Inn Express in Spruce Grove at 3:00pm.
