“Some people only walk this earth for a short time. Their departure reminds us that angels are watching over us.”
Is it with deep sadness that the family of Sarah Marie Schofield (nee Napesis), resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Beaverlodge, AB, announces her sudden passing on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the age of 62 years young.
Sarah was born on January 9, 1959, in Edmonton, AB. She grew up and remained a resident of the Peace County area for the majority of her life.
Sarah worked periodically as a housekeeper and camp cook, but she was mainly a homemaker. One of the hardest, yet most rewarding jobs of all. Sarah’s greatest love was her family. She would do anything for her loved ones, and was a proud mother and kohkum. She took great pride in traditions and valued get-togethers, birthdays, holiday and family photos. Sarah was a beloved hostess, always making sure that everyone was fed and left with a full stomach. She was always in the kitchen. Sarah’s creativeness shined through her cooking and baking (with a special mention to ‘Wok with Yan’).
She had a passion for pets, especially dogs, and it was rare that she did not own at least one dog. They were always treated as a member of the family. She loved the outdoors, camping, and “weenie roasts”. She led a simple, humble life enjoying time at home with the family watching television or movies. She loved collecting postcards from family members, reading books, “B.S.” papers and doing crossword or word-find puzzle books. She loved hunting for treasures at garage sales and thrift stores, always looking for a bargain. Sarah loved music, singing, dancing and just generally having a good time. Home parties were popular back in the day, and there were some pretty good ones! She was a free spirit, known for her wit, humour and beautiful smile. She was always teasing, joking, and laughing. Sarah was blunt at times, strong and stubborn, yet had an enormous heart.
She will be dearly missed by all who were blessed by her presence. An angel gained her wings and will watch over us always and forever.
Sarah will be sadly missed by her children: Lyle Napesis (Jamie Ramsey), Dana (Lee) Hanson, and Desmond Napesis; and grandchildren: Keiran, Kinsee and Dason Rueckert, Talon, Ceilidh, Aurora, and Elsie Napesis.
Sarah joins her heavenly family: mother Margaret Hiltz (nee Desjarlais); father Frederick Napesis; step-father Bruce Hiltz; brother Randy “Kelly” Napesis; brothers in-law Ron LeBlanc and Guy Nelson; and sister Debora Napesis.
A private viewing will be held on January 23, 2021, at Oliver’s Funeral Home, by invitation only. A private Memorial Service will be held following the viewing at Oliver’s Funeral Home by invitation only.
Interment to take place at a later date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the amazing staff at Prairie Lake Seniors Community, where Sarah resided since October of 2012. Their hard work, dedication and compassionate care will be forever appreciated.
Memorial donations may be made to the Prairie Lake Seniors Community – Recreation Department (11460 104 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 3G9), or to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association (9920 91 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0G3).
