Showers, Marlene Matilda

Marlene Matilda Showers, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at the Grande Prairie Care Center, at the age of 85 years.
Marlene was one of five children born to John and Matilda Alstad. She was raised in the Lake Saskatoon community on the family homestead. Marlene attended the Lake Saskatoon School. She married Ernie Reinitz in 1958. Ernie passed away in 1964 of carbon monoxide poisoning in a camp shack at a job site. Marlene later met John Showers. They married in 2000. John passed away in 2007.
Marlene moved into the Care Center in 2004. She was asked to turn the sod to start construction on the new Care Center and this was one of the most memorable moments of her life.
Marlene liked nothing better than a car ride in the country. At the Center, she enjoyed word search, playing bingo, visiting, laughing, being around people and watching television. Her favorite program was Coronation Street.
Marlene will be sadly missed by her brothers: Jack (Gwen) Alstad, and Miller (Beryl) Alstad; sisters: Grace deRoaldes and her younger twin Maxine (Marshall) Nelson. She also leaves sister in-law Edna Storbokkan, along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great great-nieces and nephews, and one great great great-niece Aurora Beverley.
Marlene’s brother in-law, Jim deRoaldes, passed away in 1990.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 1:00pm with Funeral Service to follow at 2:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Luncheon to follow with burial to take place at Lake Saskatoon Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
