Tom Sorken, resident of Teepee Creek, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 78 years.
Tom was born at Johanna’s Maternity Home in Sexsmith, AB, on March 6, 1944, and resided in the Teepee Creek area all his life. He and his sisters grew up in a large family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He had fond memories of music, dances, card tournaments, picnics, ball games, and just good old-fashioned fun.
Tom worked many years at the Kleskun Lake Pasture. His last job was chuckwagon judge for the Western Chuckwagon Association. “Most of my life” he’d say “I’ve hauled stuff – grain, logs, bread and milk, livestock and kids.” He drove school bus for 36 years – two generations of kids.
Tom is survived by his wife Alva; children: Dwayne (Maureen Brown), Dawn (Dave) Covi, Jo-Ella (Chris) Woodman, Robin Love, Karrilyn (Cory) Robideau, and Tanner (Hilary Bartlett); 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sisters: Carolyn McLeod, Adele (Leslie) Fraser, and Linda (Ray) Ogden, as well as many nieces, nephews, and the extended Dommer family.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Adolf and Mary; step-father Gorden Rea; sister Marylyn, brother in-law Rody McLeod; son in-law Kelly Stevens; as well as infant son Melvin Thomas.
Thank you to the ICU medical team at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for your incredible care and compassion for Tom and our family. We would also like to thank Dr. van Tonder, for his care over the last few years.
A Celebration of Life for Tom will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 11:00am, at the Sexsmith Civic Centre (99 Ave.).
