July 8, 1944 – October 21, 2021
It is with heavy hearts and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Stanley Howard Higginson of Grande Prairie, AB.
Stan was born in Wetaskiwin, AB on July 8, 1944. Stan worked in the Cattle Industry, Auctioneer, and Tire Business throughout the Peace Country. His infectious attitude, humor, and ability to connect with people made him successful and well known in the community.
Stan was a loving husband and a dedicated caregiver to his wife Cheryl for many years. “I want to thank my Dad for his tireless efforts caring for my Mom every day during her lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. It was an act of pure love that we witnessed, and I will always be amazed by my Dad” (Tammy & Shane).
He lived a wonderful life and enjoyed lots of great times with friends and family. He was especially proud of his grandson Sawyer, who is well on his way at the Royal Military College. Sawyer has some of Stan’s finest charismatic attributes.
A message from a family friend put it best: “I loved his stories – they were always light and funny with a twist at the end that made him laugh almost to tears. Your Mom and Dad’s friendship will never be replaced by any other”.
“He will be dancing with your Mom”.
Stan will be deeply missed by his children Tammy (Don Figol), Shane (Vicki Higginson), grandson Sawyer Figol, brother in-law Gurth Moon, and sisters Norma Mix and Peggy Thomas.
A funeral service for Stan will be held on Saturday, October 30 at 1:30pm at Bear Creek Funeral Home. A reflection of life will be held at the Jackpot Grill following the service at 10904 92 Avenue, Grande Prairie.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
