March 27, 1956 – May 29, 2023
It is with incredibly heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of our dad, husband, brother, uncle, grandpa and friend, peacefully at home in Grande Prairie at the age of 67.
Tim was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, to Edward and Margaret McTaggart. He grew up in Coutts, Alberta with his siblings, Ted (Mary), Gloria (Chuck), Dennis (Theresa) and Peggy (Myron). In the late 1970’s he moved to Grande Prairie to continue his passion of truck driving. In the late 1980’s he bought his first love, Myrtle, from his brother in law Chuck, who he looked up to immensely over the years. He and Myrtle started Tim McTaggart Trucking shortly after and put on quite literally, “millions of miles”. Myrtle was his pride and joy, always shiny and clean.
In 1985 he met his other first love, Beverly Kroetch, from High Prairie, Alberta and they were married August 22, 1987. In July of 1990 they welcomed their first born, Lissa Nel, and their second, Jordan Edward in August of 1993. Without a doubt in all of our minds, Bev was the one reason Tim worked so tirelessly to make sure everything was taken care of. At the end of the day everything he did and accomplished was all for her.
He worked incredibly hard to provide for our family and gave us everything we needed and could have asked for. He was our rock and there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He had one of the biggest hearts around and would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He taught us, guided us and supported us in more ways than we could have ever imagined, and we know he will continue to guide us through this difficult time. He instilled so many of his qualities deep within us that we will surely carry forward. In 2019, Lissa married Taylor Dunn, who quickly became a second son and was so proud to call him a son-in-law. In 2020 he was overjoyed with the arrival of his first granddaughter, Lainey and soon after, Bria in 2021. They were his absolute pride and joy and lit up whenever they were around.
Tim could ALWAYS be found at the shop working and puttering…always puttering. It was also a spot for coffee in the morning with all the old guys, his post lunch naps in the afternoon, and Bacardi at happy hour. The lake lot in Joussard was his sanctuary and “the best investment he ever made”. It was his favorite place for relaxing, enjoying friends and quality time with family. He also thoroughly enjoyed their small retirement home in Yuma, Arizona. Tim and Bev spent much of the last few winters enjoying warm weather, down time on the deck, and getting back into golf.
He will be missed beyond measure by his wife, Bev, daughter Lissa (Taylor), son Jordan and his two beautiful grandbabies, Lainey and Bria. Also left to mourn are his siblings, Gloria (Chuck), Ted (Mary), Peggy (Myron), sister in law Theresa, brother in law Ken, sisters in law Sharon, Karen, Colleen, Hazel, extended relatives, nieces and nephews, and so many friends who were more like family. There was no one that he met that didn’t get a warm welcome and left with a good laugh. He was so incredibly lucky to have such special people help him and shape him throughout his life. He was so thankful for each and every one of you.
Tim was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Margaret McTaggart, brother Dennis McTaggart, mother and father in-law Nellie and Ken Kroetch.
Those who knew Tim, knew he was a simple kind of guy. Come join us for a very informal gathering at the shop (9526-112 St) Saturday, June 10th from 3-6pm for “one more quick one”. Anyone who knew Tim is welcome to come celebrate, share some memories and laughs, and enjoy a drink.
