February 17, 1933 – November 25, 2021
Thomas Tofteland, passed away peacefully in Grande Prairie, AB, with his family at his side, on November 25, 2021, at the age of 88 years.
Tom was born on February 17, 1933, at the family farm near Valhalla. He was one of 5 children to Jessie and Tone Tofteland. Tom met Joyce Peterson at the Molde School and they were married on August 25, 1961. They would be inseparable for the next 60 years. Tom spent his years farming, trucking, logging, building houses, operating equipment, teaching how to operate heavy equipment at the Grande Prairie college. Tom also worked on the Dunvegan Bridge when it was being built. Tom loved to play ball and would pass his love of the sport onto his sons and grandsons. Tom was a very dedicated family man. In his later years his sons affectionately nick named him “The Foreman” or “Magnum P.I.” because he would go on his daily drives to see what everyone was up to and of course he just might give his opinion about how things should really be done. He would rarely miss coffee time in Hythe or Pete’s shop and was always available to run for parts. Tom had a full life and his memory a treasure. He is loved beyond words and will dearly be missed.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years Joyce Tofteland. His sons Darcy Tofteland, Allan (Sherri Robinson) Tofteland and Pete Tofteland. Grandsons Justin Dane, Christian, Dars, and Dylan. His brother Steve Tofteland and sister Olivia (Ken) Arkell. Brother in laws Gunnar Krantz, Royce (Gladys) Peterson, Gordon (Dorothy) Peterson, Kelly (Goldie) Peterson, and sister in laws Corrine (Walter Forsyth) Peterson, Darlene Peterson, Arlene Barry: as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Tom was predeceased by his Father Jessie Tofteland and Mother Tone Tofteland, sister Mabel Krantz, brother Johnny Tofteland, brother in laws Glenn Peterson, Lawrence (Margaret Peterson), Lloyd Peterson, Bob Barry, Sister in laws Hazel Tofteland, Ruth (Ordian) Carlstad.
There will be no memorial at this time. As per Tom’s request his remains are to be placed in a coffee can and that his final resting place be at the Valhalla Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Crowe and staff at the Hythe Medical Clinic, Judy Sterkenburg, Staff at the Hythe Pioneer Home, Nicole Collins and Staff at the Beaverlodge Hospital, and staff at the Grande Prairie Hospice.
