It is with great sadness that the family of Majoreen “Karen” Jane Toerper announce her passing on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Prairie Lakes Hospice at the age of 82 years.
Karen was born on November 19, 1938, in Grande Prairie, AB. She was exceptionally hard-working and devoted to her family. She was a wealth of information on many, many things, if you had a question, you could call her up, and she would almost always have the answer for you (that is, if you could get through). Karen was the true matriarch of the family. She knew about everyone, even extended family members and friends, recalling their family history and proudly sharing all of their achievements. She had innumerable skills and certainly had forgotten about most of them; she had more skills than majority of people will learn in their lifetime. She was a wonderful resource go-to person who will be forever missed.
She will be fondly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Heinz Toerper; children: Marian (Gary) Boyd, Chris (Liz) Toerper, Larry Toerper and Heidi (Calvin) Myrfield; grandchildren: Nathan Coulson, Bryce Coulson and Kayla (Joel) Gogo; great-granddaughter Clarke Gogo; sister Candice White; and many step-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Karen is predeceased by her parents, Albert and Jennie Funk; brothers Tom and Peter Funk.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Pope, who was exceptional those last few months, and the staff at Prairie Lakes Hospice for their care and compassion.
A Funeral Service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society (#204, 10134 97 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7X6).
