Jan Van Haga, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of DeBolt, AB, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease and a brief fight with COVID-19 and Pneumonia, at the age of 77 years.
Jan was born in High River, AB, on May 30, 1943, the eldest son of Dirk and Eva Van Haga. The family moved to a farm near Markerville, AB, where he attended school. In 1962, he moved to the DeBolt area and homesteaded on a quarter section. He started his business, Van Haga Trenching soon after, doing road work for the MD of Greenview, as well as serving as the volunteer Fire Chief in DeBolt for several years.
Jan went back to school and received a degree in counselling from Prairie Bible Institute in 1999. The family moved to Grande Prairie, where Jan established Break Free Ministries, a Christ-centered, non-profit ministry, striving to bring glory to God and freedom to mankind through prayer, teaching, counselling, and discipleship. Ordained in 2010, a pastor and prayer warrior, Jan followed wherever God led him, helping others find freedom and peace in their daily lives.
Jan will be forever remembered and missed by his wife of 35 years, Brenda Van Haga; children: Amanda, Joe, Paula, and their families; as well as his siblings: Marie, Joan, Eleanor, Beth, David, Ben, and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents; siblings: Tommy, Marjorie, and Danny; his son Steve; and grandson Dylan.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a graveside ceremony will be held at the DeBolt community cemetery by invitation only.
