Yvette Mary Lawless, longtime resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital on December 22, 2021 at the age of 71 years, with her family by her side.
Yvette was born into the family of Ronald and Rosalie Lawless, along with 14 other siblings, in Blanc Sablon, Quebec, on November 13, 1950. As a young girl she attended school in Blanc Sablon and for a brief period, at a school in a convent at Restigouche, Quebec. Returning home, she worked at the Hudson Bay Company for some time as well as at the local hospital.
In February of 1976 Yvette moved to Grande Prairie where she lived until her passing. She worked at the Speedee Mart grocery store for a few years and then moved to the Co-op store downtown where she worked in the meat department for over 10 years. Yvette had a brief period working at the courthouse and then she was employed with the City of Grande Prairie in the water department and Aquatera Utilities until her retirement in 2012.
Yvette met Ed Brien in 1998 and in June 2008 they were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grande Prairie.
Yvette is survived by her husband, Ed Brien, sons Willard (Drudge), Nathan (Drudge), Cameron (Lawless) and stepson Bradley (Samantha Cromwell); grandchildren Kaitlyn (Chinski) Bree (Drudge), Halee (Drudge), Milo (Lawless), Xavier (Sirockman,) Isaac (Cromwell) and Iain (Cromwell). She is also survived by her great grandchildren; Koeden (Chinski) and Zayne (Chinski-Wilson); sisters Alice (Ralph), Theresa, Melita (Donald), Rita (Murray), Odette (Pius), Marilyn (Kurt), her brother Leo (Melvina) and her brother-in-law Gordon as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her parents Ronald and Rosalie Lawless, sisters Celistine, (Theodore), Marie (Gordon), Ellen, Antoinette (Leo), Shelia, Bernice and brothers Thomas (Gladys) and Joseph.
The family would like to thank all of the staff in Unit 12 at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for the excellent care and service that Yvette received and the compassion she was shown while in their care. Sincere appreciation to Dr. Tony Best for the special interest he took in looking after Yvette; she thought the world of him and his assistant, Carrie.
A funeral service for Yvette will be held on Saturday, January 15th at 11am at Bear Creek Funeral Home, 11802 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie
Due to COVID restrictions, the service will be by invitation only and may be viewed at the Livestream link below.
