Grande Prairie ranked as ninth most dangerous city in Canada

Grande Prairie has been ranked as number nine out of 237 in Maclean’s magazine’s list of Canada’s 20 most dangerous places 2020.

Grande Prairie came in at 12 for 2018, and at 14 for 2019, meaning it has risen by five since 2019’s list was released.

Grande Prairie was also number one overall on Maclean’s list in 2016 for most dangerous city.

The report ranks communities according to the Statistics Canada Crime Severity Index.

Grande Prairie’s Crime Severity Index for all crime is at 173, while the CSI for violent crime is at 133.

In impaired driving, Grande Prairie sits at four in severity, right behind Dawson Creek at three.

The Swan City also takes the fourth spot for cocaine trafficking and eighth for fraud.

In firearm offences, Grande Prairie sits at 12, 13 for other drug trafficking and at 23 for violent crime.

North Battleford, Saskatchewan is ranked number one for the most dangerous city in Canada for the third year in a row.

Thompson, Manitoba came in at number two, Quesnel, B.C. at number three and Wetaskiwin at number four.
