RCMP say to avoid travel unless “absolutely necessary”

Jan 30, 2026 | 10:33 PM

Mounties across northern and central Alberta are warning drivers about dangerous road conditions due to the current freezing rain.

RCMP say they responded to multiple collisions throughout this evening (Friday, Jan. 30), and are now only recommending travel if absolutely necessary.

They note that unnecessary travel, “could put the lives of travelers, as well as those who need to respond to collisions, at risk.”

According to Environment Canada, the freezing rain warning in the Peace region will taper off overnight.
