IOC seeks more information regarding vote-buying case

LIMA, Peru — The International Olympic Committee is seeking more information about an alleged vote-buying scheme for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics that has landed one of its own members in legal trouble.
The IOC released a statement during its executive board meeting Monday, saying its ethics commission is following up on allegations against Carlos Nuzman, who led the organizing committee for the Rio Games.
Nuzman was held by Brazilian police for questioning last week. French and Brazilian authorities say he was key in channeling $2 million to former IOC member Lamine Diack as part of the scheme to bring the 2016 Games to Brazil.
The IOC will award the 2024 Olympics to Paris and the 2028 Games to Los Angeles on Wednesday, but the Nuzman case is one of a handful making headlines this week at the committee’s annual meeting.
