Forestry Open House tonight

Oct 20, 2017 | 9:40 AM

Three local forestry companies will talk about their future plans at an open house tonight.

Weyerhaeuser’s Traci Carter says this is the public’s chance to ask questions.

“We have Weyerhaeuser, Canfor, Norbord. and Agriculture and Forestry and wildfire all there. We have booths set up in the foyer (of the ENTREC Centre) on the way into the Sportsmen’s Show, with representatives available to answer questions from the public, basically (on) anything about the forest industry in Grande Prairie.”

She adds any of a number of subjects could be covered.

“We’ll have information on hand about our forest management plans, our harvesting operations, our log haul operations, silviculture, and everything that we’re planning to do in the next couple of years, all aspects of forest management. We have those resources on hand, but we’re mostly relying on the public to come out with their questions and what do they want to know about.”

Carter says operations for local companies ramp up in the winter.

“We do this to take advantage of the frozen ground and the frozen roads and to minimize (the) environmental impact of our operation.”

The open house goes from 4 to 9 p.m. at the ENTREC Centre.
