Cowboys big and small competing in Edmonton this week

Nov 8, 2017 | 8:33 AM

A lot of people from the Peace will be heading to Edmonton in the new few days.

Farmfair International starts today and will run through Remembrance Day.

Four local cowboys will be competing in an event called Rank Mini Pony later today.

Nine-year-old Pacen Hemingson of La Glace is among the group. He says mini pony is a smaller version of a regular rodeo.

“They’re probably, like, half the size of those horses. They’re pretty much just miniature horses.”

He adds he has been competing for about a year.

“My dad used to ride bareback horses, so I was interested in it for a long time. When this came up, I really wanted to do it.”

Ryder Topolinski of Grande Prairie, Logan Rasmussen of Dixonville and Jace Leitch from Brownvale are the other young cowboys from the Peace taking part.

The Canadian Finals Rodeo also starts today. Grande Prairie’s Jett Lambert and Worsley’s Dexter Patton will compete in steer riding. Jake Watson from Hudson’s Hope is in saddle broncs
