Important step ahead for Grovedale daycare project

Feb 8, 2018 | 1:18 PM

Grovedale is a step closer to having its first licensed daycare.

The Grovedale Daycare Society has been given a $440,0000 grant by the M.D. of Greenview.

Society Executive Director Lisa Arlint says the new daycare would be attached to the school.

“Our plan is to purchase a building, a portable, and attach it to Penson School in Grovedale and run before and after school care, plus a daycare.”

She adds they still need to raise at least $200,000.

“We are applying for small and large-scale grants from the Alberta government. We are hoping to form some community partnerships with businesses around our community.”

Arlint says at least 37 kids would use the facility. They would range in age from babies to 11.

“People are very happy, very receptive. I’ve already had people call to enroll and I just don’t have a building to do that just yet. There is a lot of excitement.”

Arlint adds the hope is to have the daycare open in September, but that will depend on fund-raising and licensing.
