Big Hearts for Big Kids a smashing success

Feb 25, 2018 | 10:11 AM

Another wildly successful edition of Big Hearts for Big Kids is in the books.

The 9th annual musical event and fundraiser, which was sold out this year, brought in 240 thousand dollars on Saturday night.

Funds raised through the event support the Grande Prairie Youth Emergency Shelter Society, and organizer and local musician Tenille says it’s important to support our youth.

“I admire the way that this community takes ownership in Sunrise House.  It is like Sunrise House is ours.  And we rally together to keep the doors open and to keep the opportunity for youth who need it to turn to available.  And I think that is the most important part of the night is the way that we know that we are doing something amazing for youth.”

Tenille adds one of the highlights of the evening for her came early in the program.

“We had three remarkably brave women come up on stage, who have incredible success stories through Sunrise House.  Hearing them speak on the video about their stories, and how beautiful their stories are and how well they are doing.”

Over 1.5 million dollars has now been raised in the nine year history of Big Hearts for Big Kids.

Tenille wanted to say a special thank you to all the volunteers, as well as everyone who attended, and bought raffle tickets or bid on the auctions.
