Slightly above average snowfall in Grande Prairie this winter

Mar 13, 2018 | 11:00 AM

With sunshine pouring into our region this week and spring on the horizon, the snow which the region has experienced is starting to disappear.

Most residents felt this year was especially bad when it came to the white stuff, but as Meteorologist Josh Classen explained, it wasn’t as bad as most think.

” No record snowfall. In fact, it’s not even the most snow in the last ten years. You only have to go back to the winter of 2014-2015 to have more snow. “

Since October, Grande Prairie has received 164 cm of snow.

Despite the slightly above average snowfall numbers, Classen did recognize the city almost broke a different record.

” The thing that is almost record setting is the how much snow we had on the ground in February. February 3rd, we had a snow depth of 73 cm. That is the most snow on the ground in Grande Prairie since 2013. “

The average amount of snow which falls each winter is 140 cm.
