A number of local volunteers were recognized by the Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau.

Executive Director of the Bureau Carol Ann Pasemko says the 2017 Volunteer of the Year is Dawn Torrance.

“She was nominated by the Society of Pregnant & Parenting Teen and Dawn is one of the outstanding volunteers, she does a lot of work for Pregnant and Parenting Teen’s, primarily in their child care area.”

The 2017 Corporate Volunteer of the Year is Swiss Chalet.

“They have a Music Monday which helps non-profits raise some funding, they have a youth organization, teen rewards, but the biggest thing about the local Swiss Chalet is that they really promote their employees volunteering for events in the community.”

The 2017 Outstanding Members of the Community are: Trevor Sak nominated by Grande Prairie Broncos; Meg Archer and her dog Molly nominated by St. John Ambulance; Evelyn Helmrich nominated by the Community Village; Akina Noppibul nominated by Goodwill Industries of Alberta and Michelle Glenn nominated by Parkside Montessori School.
