County will no longer operate day use area on Saskatoon Mountain
County of Grande Prairie Council has voted to stop operating a day use area on Saskatoon Mountain.
It was recently designated a Provincial Recreation Area, so it is now the province’s responsibility.
Council also approved having some of the money saved from this move set aside to put up a memorial bench in honour of former Councillor Pat Jacobs. She was one of the early proponents of having Saskatoon Mountain given the provincial designation.
Council voted for the cost-saving measure at Monday’s meeting.
Councilor Peter Harris stated at the meeting that after years of provincial downloading, this was a chance to upload something and that it should be embraced with open arms.
A release from the County says this will also free up staff to look after the other County-owned parks and campgrounds.
